Some years ago, I was in Dublin during a general election. It was something I consider to be a defining point in my life; most people I encountered were fully engaged in the process. Discussion was encouraged, views were aired and strong opinions were everywhere without any animosity or anger. A bit of a culture shock, given the nature of my own country where people seem to be ambivalent at best. In every pub, political debate replaced football on the TV.

During the visit, I saw a poster in amongst all of the political campaign images that said “I am a wolf and I will wolf you”. I took a picture and, when I got home, began to write a song around the line about the nature of the politicians that I was aware of and the fact that most people seemed to assume that they were all corrupt so there wasn’t anything we could do about it.

It evolved over about ten years, but it now lends its name to this EP about some of the hidden issues in our world that we just don’t talk about: political corruption (Wolf, Bones), mental health (In the Gloaming, Nobody Listens to the Lightning) and the missing (Sitting Down for the Small Guy, Have You Heard Her Voice?).

This is my soapbox. This is my rant. I hope it sparks debate, if nothing else.
